House Remodel, El Cerrito, ca

The Main Floor — Before & After

Before, the first floor lived like a collection of small, separate rooms: a fireplace anchoring the middle, walls dividing the day, light struggling to reach the far corners.

After, it breathes. Those walls came down, and the living room, kitchen, and dining now flow together as one open, sunlit space the kind of room where dinner, homework, and conversation all happen at once.

A new powder room and laundry quietly added function, fresh windows framed the outdoors, and a wider paver entry welcomes you in. Same footprint, completely different feeling.

The Kitchen — Where the Home Comes Together

This is the heart of it all. What was once a closed-off kitchen is now a light-filled gathering space, wrapped in warm walnut cabinetry and crowned with a sweeping waterfall-edge quartz island built for company.

A softly veined marble backsplash catches the afternoon sun, brass and matte-black hardware add a quiet touch of jewelry, and a sleek recessed glass hood floats above the island like it was always meant to be there.

Professional-grade appliances make it as capable as it is beautiful — and just past the sink, the windows do something no finish can: frame the Bay, all the way to the Golden Gate. It's the kind of kitchen where morning coffee turns into afternoon lingering, and dinner becomes the reason everyone stays.

The Deck — A Front-Row Seat to the Bay

Step outside and the whole Bay opens up. From the new wraparound wood deck, the view runs clear across the water the Bay Bridge to the south, the Golden Gate glowing in the distance, and the Richmond, San Rafael Bridge reaching toward Marin.

Mornings here are for coffee and fog lifting off the hills; evenings are for sunsets that put on a show. Warm wood underfoot, railings that echo the home's lines, and easy stairs down to the yard a sunny, comfortable, charming place you'll never quite want to leave.

The Lower Level — A Retreat of Its Own
Downstairs tells its own story. What was once overlooked is now a private, elegant world: a spacious primary suite with its own bath and walk-in closet, additional bedrooms, and a residential wet bar and recreation room made for slow weekends and easy gatherings. Tucked beneath the main living, it gives everyone room to spread out, for guests, for grown kids, for family that comes to stay a while.

Designed for What Comes Next
Every choice here was made with people in mind, big families gathered around one table, friends spilling out onto the deck, generations sharing a home without ever being on top of one another. From top to bottom, before to after, this residence was reimagined with warmth, intention, and a great deal of care. It's ready now, waiting for the next family to fill it with life.
